Preparing your guest bedroom

Preparing your guest bedroom for Christmas

Your guest bedroom – a haven for clutter or a glorified cupboard for the vacuum cleaner – is no doubt destined to see a last-minute tidy up before your guests arrive this Christmas.

It’s the time of year when you’ll inevitably have extra people to stay, so now is the time to start thinking about preparing your guest space in time for the festivities to save yourself any emergency faffing.

Besides decluttering the space, maybe by using an Ottoman, there are plenty of other steps you can take to make your guest bedroom cosy and the perfect space for your guests to get some shut-eye this Christmas. Whether it be investing in some new bedding or rearranging your furniture, we’ve listed our go-to guest bedroom tips.

Turn the heating on

It’s a good idea to put the heating on in your guest bedroom after airing out the room, as if you haven’t used your guest bedroom all year then it’s likely that you’ll either need to get some fresh air circulating or get it warm throughout. This will help the room get to a comfortable temperature prior to any guests arriving.

Create wardrobe or hanging space

Assess what available space you have in your spare room and if you’re a bit short, consider setting up some sort of wardrobe or hanging space for your guests. Depending on how long your guests stay for will determine how much space you require or whether they’ll actually use it, but having it readily available will make your guests feel much more at home.

Consider the essentials

Small touches make all the difference around a guest bedroom, particularly when entertaining family and friends. Try adding magazines or books for your guests to read or a bedside candle in the scents of jasmine or lavender; an evening read and ambient atmosphere can benefit your guests’ sleep. Another essential worth considering is to make sure there are plenty of fresh towels within easy reach for your guests.

Guest bedding

Above all else, you want to make sure your guests have something comfy to sleep on – if your guest bedroom is primarily used for storage, you may not have updated your bedding in a while, so does your duvet have the correct tog rating for the season? Or are your pillows looking a little worse for wear? Now is perfect time for a refresh!

Are you expecting extra guests this Christmas? Will you be using any of our tips for your own spare bedroom?

Sleep well!
