Many similarities can be drawn between Ecologi and Mattressman, with the most evident shared principle being a proactive stance towards preserving planet Earth. Taking measures to preserve our planet has never been more crucial than it is today. The World Meteorological Organization reports, ‘The tell-tale signs and impacts of climate change are becoming more dramatic. The rate of sea level rise has doubled since 1993.’ and ‘Concentrations of the main greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide – once again reached record levels in 2021. The annual increase in methane concentration was the highest on record.’ With this in mind, here at Mattressman, we have partnered with Ecologi, and for every product sold by Mattressman, either in-store or online, Ecologi planted a tree to reduce carbon emissions. Our partnership with Ecologi reinforces our environmental stance and works in conjunction with our mattress disposal service, whereby for a small fee, Mattressman can recycleour customers’ previous mattresses or bed frames.
Ecologi is a company whose every action revolves around reducing our carbon footprint and provides an accessible platform to encourage individuals and businesses alike to make contributions that collectively have a significant impact on reducing our carbon footprint.
The roots of Ecologi can be traced back to a group of environmentalists in Bristol who went on to form Ecologi. They were frustrated at the lack of accessible platforms that were in place to contribute towards combatting climate change. This frustration was reiterated when Elliot Coad, CEO and co-founder, bought a coffee on his morning commute to work and considered how much climate action he could fund with the money for a coffee. This prompted Elliot to realise that the pocket change billions of people worldwide have could one day account for reducing half of the world’s emissions.
Tree planting is a fundamental part of Ecologi’s business model and helps to reduce carbon emissions and tackle the climate crisis; Woodland Trust explains how ‘by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, trees help to combat climate change.’ Moreover, planting trees is also crucial in preventing an ecological collapse, and Ecologi prides itself on its relationship with reforestation partners to grow millions of trees per month.
Alongside their tree planting measures, Ecologi has a commitment towards carbon avoidance and uses contributions to support a broad range of projects that actively contribute toward reducing or avoiding greenhouse gas emissions. Every month, Ecologi supports a range of carbon avoidance projects certified by the Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard. Moreover, their Climate Committee guides their funding strategy and follows the Project Drawdown framework.
Ecolgi believes in the fundamental importance of transparency, and by showcasing the impact of your donations and contributions, as an Ecologi member, you can view updates from any projects you have contributed towards, including ones you’ve made from purchases with Mattressman.
Approximately 84,000 trees were planted, helping to preserve and restore the planet’s natural resources.
