What is an adjustable mattress?
Adjustable bed mattresses are designed to be used with electric adjustable beds, so they need to be able to move with the bed frame. An adjustable bed and mattress ensure you can sleep on an incline, with your legs slightly raised or in various positions to help alleviate aches and pains. You can alter the position you sleep in using a remote control. An adjustable base with the right mattress combo relieves your pressure points to help combat back or joint pain.
You can't just use any mattress with an adjustable bed base, as the spring system or support tension may not be compatible with the movement. Extra firm and open coil mattresses won't mimic the movement of the adjustable frame. They could cause further pain or sore joints.
What mattresses are compatible with adjustable beds?
Pocket springs
Many of the adjustable mattresses in our range comprise pocket springs. A pocket spring unit can contain anywhere between 1200 to 2150 and is brilliant for its ability to move independently from one another. Not only does this mean that the surface can move to the contours of your body to provide ample support, but it also moves effectively with the electric bed. Finding the pocket sprung mattress right for you has never been easier, as we have a selection of firmness levels, sizes and synthetic or natural fillings.
Memory foam
A memory foam mattress is popular because it moulds to your body when pressure is applied to the surface. Memory foam comprises millions of tiny holes, and air seeps out when pressure is applied to ensure your body receives total support and comfort. This is especially desirable to accentuate the zero gravity position of our adjustable bases. Memory foam is known for trapping heat, but if you aren't phased by this, then memory foam can really go above and beyond to enhance your sleep quality.
Hybrid options
Whilst most mattresses we stock as part of our adjustable collection consist of pocket sprung options, we stock some hybrid mattress options. This is when two mattress compositions are combined, such as pocket springs and memory foam or reflex foam. With these options, you can benefit from the support of the pocket springs and the comfort of the foam layers.
What is the best adjustable bed?
No sleeper is the same, so it's nearly impossible to say if there is an adjustable mattress and bed frame that could be defined as the 'best'. However, to achieve the most restful sleep possible, there are a few things to consider. Sleeping in an adjusted bed is designed in a way that you rest in a back sleep position. If you sleep on your side or front, your weight will not be evenly distributed, and your spine will be misaligned. Considering all this, we're sure you can find an incredibly comfortable mattress that's right for you.
What sizes of adjustable mattresses and bed frames are available?
Every size is available in our adjustable mattress and bed range; however, the length is usually longer to account for bends and movements in the mattress. The sizes include small single (75 x 200cm), single (90 x 200cm), small double (120 x 200cm), double (135 x 200cm), king size (150 x 200cm) and super king size (180 x 200cm). Mattressman's excellent service allows you to order a custom size if a regular mattress just doesn't fit the bill.
