What sizes of extra firm mattresses are there?

At Mattressman, we stock every standard mattress size for our extra firm mattress range: small single (75 x 190cm), single (90 x 190cm), small double (120 x 190cm), double (135 x 190cm), king size mattress (150 x 200cm), super king mattress (180 x 200cm), king size zip and link (150 x 200cm/2x 75 x 200cm) and super king zip and link (180 x 200/2x 90 x 200cm).

Finding the perfect mattress size for you

If you're unsure what's best for you, we'd suggest that a double extra firm mattress is a safe bet for most rooms. However, if you prioritise an incredibly spacious sleeping solution, you may prefer to opt for a king or super king extra firm mattress. On the other end of the scale, if you sleep alone, you may only require an extra firm single mattress.

Is an extra firm mattress right for me?

Firmer mattresses are generally recommended to people who prefer the back or stomach sleeping position. This is because the firmer mattress foundation promotes healthy spine alignment when in these sleeping positions, and the same goes for extra firm mattresses.

Extra firm mattresses feature the sturdiest sleeping surface, which is most suitable for people who suffer from back pain, neck problems or pain in their joints or hips. Compared to a firmer mattress, the additional support is designed to combat these pains. With this, due to the stiff springs in an extra firm mattress, people with a heavier build are even more supported and promote a good posture.

Sleeping on softer mattresses when any of these apply to you will cause your spine to rest in a misaligned position all night. This can cause you to wake up not only with aches and pains but also feeling unsupported. A soft mattress firmness rating is best designed for side sleepers and those with light body weight.

What types of extra firm mattresses are available?

Spring mattresses

When finding the best extra firm mattress for your needs, a sprung option can definitely supply your needs. Some of the best extra firm mattresses include pocketed sprung mattresses and open coil orthopaedic options. An open coil or pocket sprung extra firm mattress contains rigid spring systems. They help maintain the firmness rating and combat aches and pains for a good night's sleep. Many sprung extra firm mattresses in our ranges showcase the finest materials, fillings and budget options.

Memory foam mattresses

Due to foam composition, we do not stock any extra firm mattresses entirely made from foam. Our hybrid options are the perfect extra firm mattress that utilises the support from spring systems combined with memory foam so you can enjoy how the bed feels. What's fantastic about our extra firm memory foam range is the perfect balance between support and comfort. View our extensive range of memory foam extra firm mattresses and enjoy high sleep quality for many years.
