How does soft foam differ from memory foam?

Soft foam (sometimes called reflex foam in its softer grades) is a polyurethane foam designed for cushion and bounce, but without the slow-recovery feel of memory foam. Where memory foam moulds slowly to your body and recovers slowly when you move, soft foam responds and returns to shape almost instantly, giving a more responsive feel.

Who suits a soft foam mattress?

Side sleepers benefit most from soft foam because it cushions the shoulder and hip, the two heaviest pressure points when sleeping on your side. Lighter sleepers can also enjoy soft foam because they don't press as deeply into the mattress, so they get the benefit of the cushion without the spine alignment issues a heavier sleeper might face. Anyone with arthritis or joint pain who finds firmer mattresses make their symptoms worse often does well on a soft foam comfort layer.

What's underneath?

A soft foam comfort layer is almost always paired with a firmer support core, either a pocket sprung base or a denser reflex foam. The combination gives you a soft surface feel without the sag that would come from an all-soft mattress.
