What is a pocket memory mattress?

As the name suggests, this mattress type comprises both pocket springs and memory foam paving the way for an incredible night’s rest. You’ll sometimes be able to identify if your mattress features both support mechanisms from the title alone, such as ‘1000 pocket sprung memory foam mattress’ and similar titles. However, this isn’t always the case and popular mattresses including Sleepsoul Balance 800 and the Sleepsoul Space 2000 feature pocket springs and memory foam layers.

Should I consider a pocket sprung memory foam mattress?

In truth many mattresses that feature pocket springs will also consist of memory foam layers. Pocket springs and memory foam are both recognised for providing targeted support. The exceptions to these are all-foam mattresses or pocket sprung mattresses that feature latex, gel foam and natural materials, among other fillings.

Pocket sprung mattress vs memory foam - what are the differences?

As mentioned earlier, both memory foam and pocket springs are designed to offer tailored support, however both support systems differ in how they go about this. With pocket springs, each spring is wrapped in a fabric sleeve and reacts independently and in accordance to pressure. Therefore, you can rely on pocket springs to relieve pressure and soothe minor aches and pains.

With memory foam, you’ll experience more of a sink-in sensation and reap the benefits of body cradling support. Memory foam adapts to the contours of your body providing a luxurious sensation. With a pocket memory mattress, you’ll have the benefit of tailored support and comfort originating from both the memory foam and pocket springs.

How much selection is available?

Size

Conveniently, our memory foam pocket spring mattress features every standard UK size as well as zip and link and European sizing options.

What about tension?

Our range features medium, medium firm and firm mattresses. Below we explain mattress tensions in greater detail, helping you to make an informed decision.

For side sleepers, we’d advise a medium mattress in order to receive soft hip and shoulder support. If you like to sleep in a variety of positions, you’ll benefit from a medium firm mattress. Medium firm tension provides the perfect balance between soft support for side sleeping, whilst it’s also firm enough to adequately support the spine when front and back sleeping. Finally, front and back sleepers are best suited for a firm mattress. Assess how you sleep and then choose the pocket spring memory foam mattress that best suits your sleeping style.
