If you’re a parent with children that are going back to school, you may be excited for (or dreading) the month of September. Whether you are looking forward to it or not, you will always want your kid(s) to start the year in the best way possible. We are going to share our top tips on how we think you can help your kids have the best school year to date!

A good day starts with a good night’s sleep…

This isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s been instilled in most of us that a good night’s sleep is key to getting the most out of a day of working or learning, but how much sleep do our children actually need? A rough guide states that 1to 3 year olds need 12-14 hours per day, 4 to 6 need 10-12, 7 to 12 year olds need 10-11 and 13 to 18 need 8-9.

From this, we can see that growing kids need a lot of sleep. As some ages are spending near enough half of the day sleeping, it’s good to keep their bed right for them. If they’re starting to outgrow their beds why not get them a cool new one to kick their school year off right? We’ve got bunk beds, cabin beds with inbuilt desks (motivation to do their homework maybe!). Certainly, something to get your children to look forward to bedtime.

It’s hard to work in an environment that hasn’t been associated with working…

Of course, no kid wants to come home from a laborious day at school and willingly do homework on top of it. It’s hard to motivate them to get on with it, especially when they are in play mode. However, when your kids come home from school they recognise that home isn’t a place of work (especially after school holidays!), and they want to play games with siblings or neighbours down the road.

We understand it’s hard to get them into work mode, so our tip is to introduce a work area with your children so they can see it as a place to do their homework. We’ve got a range of little tables and chairs for the youngsters, but we also have a more sophisticated range for the teens. This can help to motivate them to get on with their times’ tables or revise for exams, which can only improve their school performance! It’s a no brainer, right?

Back to School and How to Prepare

Down time is just as important…

Both of the above are vital for a child’s development throughout their school years, but time to play or relax is just as crucial if not more. Having fun and messing around with friends will give them the release they need before having to repeat their daily routine. We have some fun, interactive toy boxes that will fully immerse your young children into playtime, giving them the fun they need before bath and bedtime.
