Emergency despatch units in Bristol breathed a collective sigh of relief when what was thought to be a dead body turned out to be simply a discarded
mattress.
The worried citizen who discovered the 'body' wasted no time in calling an ambulance, who quickly alerted other units to stand by. Once on the scene, the crew quickly got down to business, only to discover a mattress covered by a
duvet.
The
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity was poised to dispatch a emergency crew, but was told to stand down once the cause of the furore was discovered to be discarded bedding.
Admirably, the crew were able to laugh the potentially-disturbing situation off, saying in a statement that; “It is quite common for us to be told to get ready for, say, a road accident, and then later when road traffic police get there they find it’s just whiplash or something. But we’ve never had a call out that turned out to be a mattress before. We’ve got a sense of humour about it.”
The crew also added a new tweet to their
twitter site the same day:
"Placed on alert for body found in Knowle, Bristol. On closer inspection turned out to be a mattress. #notthesamething."
